Final Fridays on the Square: The Final Friday evenings of
each month are great fun! The Shops and Galleries are open until 10 p.m.; most everyone offers special prices and/or refreshments and there is usually special free entertainment. The Mead House is just one block from the Square, so plan a Final Friday weekend!
Barns and Bridges: Take yourselves "just a step beyond" to visit the five covered bridges and 27 "Quilt Barns" of scenic, rural Vinton County. Designed in three loops for easy touring, you'll also visit some of the several State Parks along the way, see a "haunted" railrway tunnel, some remnants of the busy industrial past, and a couple of historic schoolhouses. You can even hand-feed hummingbirds in the summer at the Lake Hope State Park Nature Center four days a week. Haunted Hills Ghost Express: August 14: Learn about the local spirits who haunt the area as you listen to hair-raising tales ~ from the Moonville Tunnel brakeman to the weeping State Street angel to the deaf mute whose imprint still remains on the floor of the insane asylum and more. The ride includes a Ghost Guide to embark on your own spirit-hunting adventure in the Hocking Hills,, Train departs the Nelsonville depot at 8 p.m. and the ride lasts two hours.
