This beautiful house was built in 1882 by Dr. Primrose, a prominent physician in Athens County.  His daughter Sarah married his new partner, Frank A. Hyde, M.D. and he gave them the house as a wedding gift.

The Hyde family descendents continued to live in the home until the 1970s.  The house became a rental property thereafter and fell into disrepair.  It was lovingly restored by Michael and Sheila Mark in 2006-2007, with its original plaster walls, wood floors, opulent woodwork, and beautiful winding staircase.

Located just a block from the historic square in Nelsonville, Ohio, it is now a proud contributor to this local artist community. Four guest rooms, each with their own bathroom, offer Bed & Breakfast to visitors who enjoy the atmosphere of days gone by.

Located near Ohio University, Hocking College and the Wayne National Forest, the Mead house has all the warmth and welcoming atmosphere that typifies this region of Appalalchia.  A fifteen minute ride and guests can be at the trails, caves and natural beauty of the Hocking HIlls in one direction, or on the traditional picturesque campus of Ohio University in the other direction.
